Bastion of Carini Castle

Crossing the small corridor, you can notice the different building layers of the Castle on your right. Under the roof, the perimeter wall of the original construction of the Castle, carried out towards the first half of the twelfth century, probably by Rodolfo Bonello, is visible.

Reach the rampart of the Bastion.

​

From here you dominate the entire Carini plain. From this point you can admire on the right the former convent of the Franciscan friars, from which according to legend the confessor friar, a certain Antonio del Bosco, spying on Ludovico Vernagallo's movements around the Castle on a daily basis, informed Father Don Cesare Lanza of the daughter Laura's adultery.

The strategic lookout point of the bastion embraces with its gaze the entire panorama that from the Isola delle Femmine, located at the bottom on the right, reaches on the left, the Pozzillo Tower, erected as a defense point together with the other Towers located on the coast: that of the Baglio di Carini, of the Muzza Tower, of the Monaca Tower, of the Milioti Tower, of the Ciachèa Tower. Of these, it is said, they were all connected via underground tunnels to the Castle.

But let's look back at the center of the Bastion.

At the center of the bastion there is a quadrangular stone that closes a trapdoor from which the height of the entire structure can be seen.

The space below was probably used as a prison.

A staircase located on the left side of the bastion leads to the attic rooms, reserved for the servants' quarters.

Dear visitor, I now invite you to ascend this staircase to continue your visit. 

Once you reach the top of the staircase, through a door, you will be entered into a service area, where you will find a splendid fireplace.

From here continue your journey to visit the Sicilian Puppet Opera Museum, which is located in the attic rooms.
